IT-Ready Benefits

Are You Ready for a Career in IT?

We take bright, motivated individuals who lack opportunity and teach them – free of charge – the technical and professional development skills needed to successfully secure work in an entry-level position in information technology.

Participants who enroll in our classroom-based IT-Ready Technical Support program learn material to help them successfully pass both parts of the CompTIA A+ certification exam.

The IT-Ready Technical Support curriculum includes operating system installation and upgrading; installing and imaging virtual machines; data storage; peripheral devices; safety and maintenance; assembly and disassembling of hardware; computer networking; Internet security; and troubleshooting.

In our new IT-Ready CompTIA Secure Infrastructure Specialist (CSIS) class, students initially work toward CompTIA A+ certification as in our IT-Ready Technical Support class, but then receive additional training to complete their CompTIA Network+ and Security+ certification for a total of 14 weeks of training.

In our IT-Ready QA class, students learn the foundational skills required to become a software tester – the best practices for breaking software and squashing bugs.

All IT-Ready participants receive targeted professional development to refine critical business skills, such as communication and presentation, conflict management, teamwork and collaboration, and critical thinking and problem solving, as part of Creating IT Futures’ PrepareUTM curriculum. Graduates are prepared to apply these skills starting Day 1 of their next jobs.

IT-Ready graduates are encouraged to take advantage of the Alumni program which provides free online training and testing vouchers for other CompTIA certifications (including Network + and Security+). Their PrepareU training also helps students with resume building, job searches and interviewing techniques.

IT-Ready takes place in a classroom environment with one instructor and up to 25 students. The instructor shares material in a lecture format, but leaves plenty of time for questions, group projects and one-on-one attention, as well as hands-on labs.

Classes are held five days a week, Monday through Friday, beginning promptly at 9 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m.

Students are required to be on time every day; the program allows only one excused absence and two excused tardies. Students must dress as they would in an employment setting in “business casual” attire.

In the classroom, students work on desktop computers with a Windows 7 or newer operating system with the technical aspects of the Technical Support curriculum being tailored to the CompTIA A+ exam. Technical Support students take their A+ certification exams for free during the last week of the program. CSIS students take their CompTIA A+, Network+ and Security+ exams for free. IT-Ready QA students will take three certified tester exams for free.

IT-Ready students who pass their certification exams are eligible for a tech job paying up to $15/hour. IT-Ready graduates are effectively employees of that company on a temporary, contract, or, in some cases, full-time permanent basis. IT-Ready staff members remain in touch with graduates and company representatives to ensure all goes smoothly and to provide guidance to graduates if necessary.

Graduates Find Success

Before this program I would apply for 20 jobs and maybe hear back from one or two of them. Now I have people from places I didn’t even apply to, coming to me saying, ‘Please come in for an interview. We want to hire you.’
— Mitchell Rolland, IT-Ready Graduate
